The Band turned out for the Caledonian Club Games in full force over Labor Day Weekend and came away with a collection of prizes in both band and solo competition. The weather was hot and the playing was even hotter!
The Band won second place in the March, Strathspey and Reel contest on Saturday and second place in the Medley contest on Sunday. Take a listen to the performances and let us know what you think!
Our soloists did very well also, highlighted by the first-place prizes garnered by Eli Fugate (Open Snare), Kris Muse (Grade 2 Piping) and Chelsea Wells (Grade 3 Piping). Top-three finishes were earned by Ken Sutherland (Open Piping), Mitch Ambre (Grade 3 Piping), and Colin Thurber (Grade 4 Piping). Also in the mix were top-six finishes by Amelia Bloom (Grade 4 Piping), Tomio Endo and Andrew Murphey (Grade 3 Piping). All our solo competitors did a great job and represented the Band well.
The Band performed Friday night at the Games Hotel to a very appreciative crowd, and also entertained the Games Operations Crew after a long day on Sunday – one of our favorite parts of the whole weekend. The Massed Bands on Saturday included a tribute honoring the late Bill Merriman, and on Sunday a special Amazing Grace duet was performed by P/M Ken Sutherland and his son John Sutherland, who plays with the Robert Malcolm Memorial Pipe Band.
